That being stated, it should be no surprise that many pet owners feel it is appropriate to feed their animal companions the same food that they consume; after all, if it’s good for me it’s good for them, correct? Well, you may be wrong. While it’s certainly true that our pets can benefit from the same vitamins and nutrients that humans do, one must keep in mind that as with humans our…

Espresso vs. Coffee in Europe

If you live in America, it is simple to distinguish coffee from espresso. Just observe how and where they are being served. If you see lots of little cups and white linens, think espresso. Beards And Baseball – What’s With The Trend?

Sports usually play as the breeding ground for various trends, and most recently it has been beards in baseball. Most sports, especially contact sports, tend to stray away from excessive facial hair simply because it can cause lots of discomfort, but this doesn’t seem to be the case for baseball players as more and more baseball players are growing facial hair. Not only have people been noticing the increase in popularity with it, but the players themselves are actually wanting it to become a trend – and it has. From May through September, Quebec can be a very nice, warm place to visit. You don’t get the blistering sun that you do from states like Florida and California in the US, so the temperature itself is a good reason to head north. It may take some getting…

Putting the Cool Back in Education

Becoming a teacher means entering into a very respectable profession and opening many doors to advance your career.  It means putting yourself first so that you may then help as many people as possible as quickly as possible. It means dedicating your life to a life of service, regardless of the cost.  Though teachers possess knowledge, courage, passion, and are highly respected they do not live a life of glamor.  The stakes are often high and the pay is often low, however, because the quality of education varies by country there are certain countries where one may consider moving and…

Retired Sled Dog Abused, Authorities Investigate

After the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, the sled dog industry collapsed, leaving many sled businesses out in the cold. Dogs are not like normal business inventory, however, and must be fed and cared for by the owners, even without a positive cash flow. Robert Fawcett, claiming only to have harmed sickly dogs, slaughtered more than a half dozen sled dogs and buried them on his property. Whether cruelty or money was the motivation, more and more sled dogs are retired from this harsh job each year. Their superb strength and endurance are key factors that must be considered if you want…

Animal Cruelty at its Worst as Animals are Abandoned in BC

In August of 2013, a total of 50 small breed dogs of all types were dumped overnight at two different Vancouver-area animal shelters. Although it is not clear whether the incidents were related, the abandonment of so many animals at once underscores the shocking lack of concern some people have for animals in their care. Shaking and terrified, 38 of the dogs, mostly Chihuahuas, one of the most popular and non allergenic dogs that originated in Mexico, and Yorkshire terriers, were dumped in stacked crates covered by a tarp outside the gates of a Richmond animal shelter. An additional 12…

Camel Spiders in the Desert of… Canada?

The hairy, fast moving arachnid with menacing pincer-like jaws, commonly known as the Camel Spider, is endemic to most hot desert regions around the world. It will feed on most anything it is able to kill or scavenge, from insects to lizards, rodents and even small birds. They were encountered by allied troops in Northern Africa during both WW I and II. Here are some interesting Sahara desert facts to consider: less than 4 inches of annual rainfall and temperatures in excess of 50 degrees Centigrade during the hottest months. So what are the chances you may be confronted by…

Teaching Intercontinentally: Canada to Chicago

There is no doubt that teaching is one of the most important jobs one can do.  It requires a tremendous amount of patience, empathy, selflessness, and dynamism, and durability.  Becoming a high school teacher requires one to put himself in the front lines and face the battle of a compromised educational system head on and full force. The strength of this fight is obviously dependent on where a teacher lives and where he teaches, with more challenges occurring in public school systems in big cities or in areas of the country where people have limited financial resources and, as a…
