Here's a question: why are we still consuming the news like it's 1899? Enter the Moby Dick Project.

Some of the gold that comes out of this 'prototype-athon' will be reflections like Jay Rosen's "three different kinds of context we're missing", but we thought the experience of getting into that practical, user-centred headspace was valuable in itself. These are our (incomplete) visual notes. The sketches are our own except for the z-rack, which we borrowed from here. We want one of these, by the way!

Props to Ben Huh, Stanford University and volunteers, the Knight Foundation and the Knight-Mozilla news partnership for creating something amazing. We enjoyed working with all of the people who attended and we're looking forward to bringing the spirit of prototyping back home.

We're launching soon

Everyone knows that web is the future of news, the hard part is making it happen.

We are independent researchers in the process of interviewing student journalists and experts across North America to find out what's next.

Follow the project

Follow our project by subscribing, we'll let you know when the project is fully up-and-running. We hate spam, so expect only one e-mail about the launch. Or, tweet @openjo. We're always up for discussion!
